Temping Tips
Dear Temp Candidate
Every time you temp in any booking it gives you the key to a wonderful world of opportunity. If you know the right buttons to press you can literally build yourself an amazing future in a short time. To be a successful temp there are some things aside from the obvious that will set you apart from the rest. In our experience the following advice will give you the edge.
- Be sure to talk to us once a week and be very committed about ringing in. One of the most important things about temping is to be sure your agency knows where you are and your availability. Best day to call? Friday, many companies re-book on a Friday.
- Once you are in a booking take the time to call us and give us feedback. The more you tell us the better. From your “birds eye view” as a temp you can spot opportunities which may well result in you getting more bookings. It’s a fantastic chance to network, you are planted in a company where you can grow – look around you!
- Particularly if you are a Junior temp or perhaps someone who has not temped before always up-date your CV with the latest temping experience. What’s the best way to do this? Have a section in your CV called “temp experience summary”. Be careful not to mention company names; many companies do not want their individual short-term bookings to be featured in CVs.
- Sounds really boring but punctuality when temping is paramount. It is the thing that drives clients crazy – you will not be asked back if you are late. If (and it happens to us all) you can see your are going to be late be sure to call us so we can let them know and you can look professional.
- If you finish your tasks always ask for more giving the client the picture of a dedicated and worthwhile addition to the office. Clients always tell us when a temp asks for more work, it is not the norm and will make you stand out.
- Definitely tell us if your job spec changes, you could command more money!
- Finally, please send your friends to temp with us. The more temps we have out the bigger our market share and the bigger our new business flow resulting in more jobs for you. We do have a candidate referral programme which is where we like to say thank you for spreading the word please ask us about this.
I hope these points will help you to develop your temp work, if I can be of any help at all in advising you how to develop your temp career please don’t hesitate to call me or e mail me on
With best wishes.
